Playhouse 22 Kick’s Off the New Year with a Unique Theater Experience

by Playhouse 22 on Dec 30th | Email

Playhouse 22 will be launching it’s “On The Edge Series” with the production of “As Bees in Honey Drown” by Douglas Carter Beane and directed by Amy Levine. “As Bees in Honey Drown” is the story about Evan Wyler, a twenty-something New York writer savoring the success of his debut novel. Defined by the media as the “hot, young, thing-of-the moment,” Evan captures the attention of Alexa Vere de Vere, a blackclad woman of mystery who’s made the world of celebrity her home. In fact, it’s her religion.

The show will open on Friday, January 7, 2011 and run for two weekends. Shows will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m.

The “On the Edge Series” is an opportunity for directors to present lesser known or smaller works that might not be suited to a full-scale production. The emphasis is on the play and the acting, not costumes, props or special effects. The shows are presented with the audience on the stage, right in the middle of the action, allowing a ringside view as the story unfolds around them. In March, the series will present “All The King’s Women” by New Jersey playwright Luigi Jannuzi and directed by Walter Placzek.

All general admission tickets are $12 and are available at http://www.Playhouse22.org. For more information, please call the Box Office at (732) 254-3939. Playhouse 22 is located the East Brunswick Community Arts Center at 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
