Construction worker in serious condition after 30-foot fall at Summerhill Square
EAST BRUNSWICK -- A construction worker was in serious condition on Tuesday after falling 30 feet from atop an unfinished building on Route 18 in East Brunswick, police said.
Officials rushed to the Summerhill Square retail development near Arthur Street just before 1:10 p.m. after the worker, a 40-year-old Brick man, fell from the roof, Sgt. Paul Natalicchio said.
Police arrived to find that the man had suffered a head injury and stopped breathing.
After emergency medical personnel administered CPR, the man was taken by the East Brunswick Rescue Squad to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Natalicchio said. He was listed in serious condition late Tuesday afternoon.
Officials were withholding the victim’s name because they were still notifying his family, the sergeant said. He is an employee of Lunar Steel of North Brunswick.
The fall occurred at a construction site at Summerhill Square, which is currently home to Toys R Us and Babies R Us along Route 18 South.
The accident is being investigated by East Brunswick police detectives and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
