East Brunswick cops search for robber who forced victim into car
EAST BRUNSWICK - Police are searching for a robber who forced a woman into his car in East Brunswick last week and threatened to shoot her before fleeing with cash, officials said Tuesday.
The 21-year-old victim told police she was taking a bus from Perth Amboy to East Brunswick, arriving about 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Old Bridge Turnpike and Prospect Street. After exiting the bus she crossed the street and started to walk between West Prospect and Wilmont streets when a man approached her from behind.
The individual pressed an unknown object into her back and forced her into his car, Detective Sgt. Kevin Zebro said. After driving her around the block to West Amherst Street, he demanded cash and told her to look away from him.
He then pressed the object against her neck and told her that if she turned around, he would shoot her, Zebro said in a news release. The victim turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and was released from the car.
She described the robber as a white man in his 20s who had a medium build and was about 6 feet tall, the sergeant said. He may have had blue eyes and wore a ski mask and black clothing.
The victim told police the vehicle was a newer-model light green sedan with a beige interior and tinted rear windows, Zebro said.
He asked anyone with information to call East Brunswick police Detective Robert Zielinski at 732-390-6990.
