East Brunswick High School grads Air Force Academy bound
EAST BRUNSWICK Two brothers who graduated East Brunswick High school will be attending the United States Air Force Academy this fall.
Michael B. Spiotta and Thomas E. Spiotta, who also attended the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, were among several students from the 12th Congressional District of New Jersey who will attend the United States Military Service Academies.
“These students have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, intelligence, commitment to public service and strength of character,” said U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12) in a press release. “It is an honor to recognize these accomplished young New Jerseyans, and I know they will serve America with distinction as academy students and military officers.”
As a member of Congress, Holt may nominate highly qualified New Jersey students to the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.
The selection process is extremely competitive and considers each candidate’s academic accomplishments, physical training, leadership potential, extracurricular activities and other proven abilities.
Graduates of the military academies are commissioned as officers in the U.S. military.
The other local attendees are:
U.S. Air Force Academy: Alisha R. Maskarenas, South Brunswick High School; Derrick Pee, South Brunswick High School.
U.S. Military Academy: Alexander G. Rivera, South Brunswick High School.
